Ferrari to build USA-bound special edition

Good news for Americans! Ferrari has confirmed that it is to build ten examples of a ‘special car' for the USA.

Outgoing chairman Luca di Montezemolo announced the special models would be built to celebrate the company's 60th year in the USA.

And, err, that's about all we can tell you at the moment. Ferrari hasn't released any more information, other than news that this new supercar will be unveiled in addition to "a major event in Los Angeles to bring together all our American clients and collectors," di Montezemolo added.

The news comes on the back of Ferrari reporting a 14.5 per cent increase in revenues and 5.2 per cent profit increase in the first half of 2014.

But it also comes on the back of the seismic news last week that di Montezemolo is to stand down after 23 years at the helm of the world's most famous supercar brand.

"This is the end of an era," Luca said last week. "Ferrari is the most wonderful company in the world. It has been a great privilege and honour to have been its leader.

"I devoted all of my enthusiasm and commitment to it over the years. Together with my family, it was, and continues to be, the most important thing in my life," he added.

You can read TG.com's look back on Luca's tenure at Ferrari here, but before you do, take a moment to speculate on the ‘special car' heading for the States. Any ideas?
