A tuning company has released a supercharger package for the already brutish HSV Commodore - the Vauxhall VXR8 on British shores - and, quite frankly, it's absolute madness.
Walkinshaw Performance is no stranger to Vauxhall's V8 wonders, and the ‘Racing Edition' package is the wildest yet. There's a host of upgrades, including a sports exhaust system and some natty decals, but the headlines are taken by the Eaton Twin Vortices 2300 supercharger, which gives one heck of a performance boost, and a camshaft upgrade. Both come with a warranty too, which is helpful piece of mind given that there's a 30 per cent power increase...
Fire up the ignition and you can say ‘g'day' to 748bhp and 723lb ft of torque (the standard car cranking out 576bhp and 550lb ft). We don't know about you, but that sounds pretty ‘bonza' from where we're sitting. It'll certainly get you from A to B in a hurry. Whether there's any rubber left on the tyres once you've arrived at B is another matter entirely...
All of this otherworldly power can be unlocked for 24,490 Australian dollars - or a shade under £14,000. While Walkinshaw is a British tuning company (with supercharger packages available for previous generation VXR8s), this Racing Edition is being sold through its Australian arm, with sales limited to 50 units.
Sheer madness? Or would you find the chance to give your saloon car Pagani Huayra-beating power irresistible?
