Mercedes prices up the AMG GT

While the AMG GT spins endlessly around on a motor show stand in Paris, Mercedes has slapped price tags on both versions of its new sports car.

They're just the German market prices for now (and therefore in euros), mind, but fear not, as we've got our calculator out ready.

The entry point to AMG GT ownership will be 115,430 euros, which currently translates to around £90,000. Which is in turn equivalent to a modestly specced Porsche 911 Carrera S...

This base car comes with a 456bhp 4-litre twin-turbo V8 engine, endowing it with a 189mph top speed. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a seven-speed twin-clutch paddleshift gearbox.

Spend an extra 19,000 euros (taking the price to around £105,000) and you'll be able to buy the more potent AMG GT S. It gets a more powerful 503bhp tune of the 'hot inside V' turbo V8, as well as a suite of more performance minded tech, including a cleverer electronic diff, a performance exhaust system and adjustable dampers.

Those who run fastest to their nearest Merc dealer can also choose to spend a little extra to buy the AMG GT S Edition 1 (pictured above, in grey). Mercedes brings each and every one of its new cars to the market via a trinket-laden special edition nowadays, and the AMG GT is no different.

The launch special gets an aero kit, including a rather tasty fixed rear spoiler, a carbonfibre roof, a 'Night Package' (lots of black exterior detailing, basically), ten-spoke alloy wheels and some lovely Nappa leather inside. It's priced at 148,512 euros - roughly £116,000.

Mercedes says European sales will begin in early 2015, and we can expect the official UK prices closer to then. We imagine Porsche dealers are worryingly awaiting their arrival.

We'll also see the new Mercedes AMG C63 around the same time, and Merc has been printing out the price stickers for that, too.

It uses the same engine as the AMG GT, gaining both tunes of it. The base version kicks the range off at 76,100 euros (£60,000 approx) while the more shouty S demands an additional 8,000 euros (making it around £66,000). Both saloon and estate versions of the C63 also benefit from the Edition 1 treatment, with the focus on red and black detailing inside and out.
