Alfa Romeo confirms Giulia QV pricing for Australia

Alfa Romeo has revealed sharp pricing for its high-performance Giulia QV of $143,900 before on-road costs, positioning it $14,215 cheaper than Mercedes-AMG C63 S and just $4285 more expensive than its BMW M3 rival.

While BMW's sedan hero can be had for $139,615 in its base guise, opting for the Competition-spec version raises prices up to $144,615 – $715 more expensive than the Alfa – and the Mercedes C-Class-based bruiser starts at $155,615.

For the money, Alfa Romeo customers will enjoy a Ferrari-developed 375kW/600Nm 2.9-litre turbocharged V6 which, like its competitive pricing, will be more than enough to match its front-engine, rear-drive German rivals.

The BMW M3 will belt out 331kW/550Nm from its 3.0-litre twin-turbo straight six, while the Mercedes-AMG model – with two more cylinders and another 1.1 litres of displacement – matches the Alfa's power output at 375kW but trumps the Giulia with 700Nm of torque.

Zero to 100km/h acceleration times are also close, with a strong tailwind likely to push one European super sedan in front of the other, but official times clock the Giulia QV as the fastest at 3.9 seconds – 0.1s quicker than the C63 S and 0.2s faster than the M3 Competition.

The Giulia QV feeds power through an eight-speed automatic transmission with steering wheel-mounted shifters, while the engine features cylinder deactivation technology for a European combined economy figure of 8.2L/100km.

Alfa has also fitted its range-topping mid-size sedan with equipment including active aerodynamics, torque vectoring, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles' (FCA) DNA drive select system, 19-inch forged alloy wheels, autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, active cruise control and lane departure warning as standard.

The Giulia QV will hit Australian showrooms on February 16.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) Australia president and CEO Steve Zanlunghi said the Giulia QV will appease customers looking for a fresh European super sedan.

"Heralding best-in-class performance, we believe the Giulia QV price represents a competitive and value driven proposition for Australian motoring enthusiasts looking for something different and of course, uniquely Italian," he said.

The Giulia QV will hit Australian showrooms on February 16 and will be on show at the Portsea Polo in Victoria's Mornington Peninsula from mid-January.
