Honda has introduced model year 2017 revisions for its Odyssey and Jazz models – arriving in Australian showrooms this month – ushering tweaked styling and new equipment for the people mover, and upgraded wheels for the light hatch.

The Japanese manufacturer's range-topping Odyssey VTi-L has a new front fascia that features a dark chrome upper grille, black three-bar lower grille and darkened headlight housings as part of its visual refresh.

Darker privacy glass for the second row, third row and tailgate windows, as well as ISOFIX child seat anchor points for second row seats, have also been added.

These increases in equipment levels mean the Odyssey VTi-L's price jumps up $450 to $46,490 before on-roads costs, while the lower-spec VTi holds steady at $37,610.

Split-pocket storage pouches on the back of the front row seats and a new premium pearlescent paint colour called 'spice purple' – which replaces the existing 'carnelian red' pearlescent – are also new to the VTi and VTi-L.

The Odyssey achieved 2712 sales in 2016, making it the second best selling people mover under $60,000.

Meanwhile, the Jazz's entry-level VTi trades in its formerly standard steel wheels for 15-inch alloy, shod with 175/65 rubber.

A manual gearbox opens the price point for the revised light car variant at an unchanged $14,990, while a continuously variable transmission (CVT) is still on offer for $16,990.

Pricing for the higher-grade VTi-S and VTi-L model grades are also unaffected at $19,790 and $22,490 respectively, thanks to the lack of changes to their specification levels.

Honda Australia boss Stephen Collins said the upgrade for the base model further increases its value – which already includes LED projector beam headlights, LED tail-lights and a multi-angle reversing camera.

Last year Honda sold 8316 examples of the Jazz, which was good enough for fifth place in the sub-$25,000 light car segment behind the Hyundai Accent (18,703), Mazda2 (13,639), Toyota Yaris (12,158) and Suzuki Swift (8372).

On the other hand, the Odyssey achieved 2712 sales in 2016, making it the second best selling people mover under $60,000, behind the Kia Carnival (4777), but still in front of the Hyundai iMax (1387) and Volkswagen Multivan (961).
