Mercedes-AMG has revealed the latest addition to its line-up in the form of the GLC63 mid-size SUV, which will arrive in Australia from December this year in high-riding wagon and Coupe body styles.
Already featuring prominently across the AMG range, the headline act is once again the 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 petrol engine, which produces 375kW of power and 700Nm of torque in GLC63 S guise.
This powerplant helps to dispatch of the triple-figure sprint in 3.8 seconds for both models, and is aided by the 4Matic+ all-wheel drive system with variable torque distribution that recently debuted in the 450kW E63 S sedan.
Similarly, a nine-speed wet-clutch automatic transmission also carries over from its four-door big brother where it was first employed in an AMG model.
Both the wagon and coupe consume 10.7 litres per 100 kilometres on the combined cycle test and emit 244 grams/km of CO2 emissions, while top speed is electronically limited to 250km/h.

An adjustable three-chamber air suspension set-up helps vary ride stiffness depending on the selected driving mode – which can be either Comfort, Sport, Sport+, Race or the customisable Individual.

The performance SUV is distinguished visually by its vertical-slat Panamericana front grille, which is an AMG family design, making its debut on a non-GT model with the GLC63 S.
Other exterior changes include an AMG bodykit which is comprised of a large front splitter, wider wheel arches, lower side sills, black rear diffuser with quad exhaust tips, lip roof spoiler and 20-inch 'Titanium Grey' alloys.
On the inside, lashings of man-made leather and Alcantara trim with contrasting stitching are liberally used, as well as plenty of AMG branding.
Customers will be treated to an extensive options list that includes a performance exhaust system, high-gloss black trim 'Night' package, exterior carbon-fibre package, and a nappa leather 'Studio' interior package.
A GLC63 base variant will also be available for both shapes overseas, but it is yet to be confirmed for a local release, according to Mercedes-Benz Australia PR boss David McCarthy.
Its engine will be the same but de-tuned, developing 350kW/650Nm via the aforementioned drivetrain and transmission set-up.
As a result, the dash from 0-100km/h will be slower at 4.0s, but fuel economy improves to 10.3-10.7L/100km, as well as CO2 emissions which are rated at 234-244g/km.
However, Mr McCarthy did confirm the local arm would take delivery of the limited GLC63 S Coupe Edition 1, but the exact number of units to be sold Down Under remains unclear.
Cosmetic changes separate the Edition 1 from its donor car, with yellow highlights adorning the side sills, wheel rims and side mirrors, as well as black nappa leather with contrasting stitching inside the cabin.
Local pricing and specification details, including availability of the base model, are expected to be revealed closer to the December on-sale date for the GLC63 S – which has been confirmed by Mr McCarthy.
Affalterbach’s newest performance SUV is scheduled for its first public showing at the New York motor show next week, which kicks off on April 12.
