It’s already November 1st in some parts of the world and by the time you read this, it might be November 1st here in the U.S. too. Why is that important, you ask? Well, that means that Thanksgiving is 24 days away and just as important, the long-awaited premier of The Grand Tour is 18 days away. Some people can take that alert in a number of different directions, but as self-proclaimed fans of Jeremy Clarkson, James May, and Richard Hammond, we’ve waited a long time to see the trio return to our lives after an extended absence…and the fact that they’re not in Top Gear anymore.
So yes, people are excited and if I do say so myself, it appears that the three feel the same way as they’ve now embarked on the traditional promotional circuit to talk about the show ahead of its debut. I don’t know their schedule in that regard, but I do know that they spent a little over 10 minutes to talk with The Los Angeles Times’ Charles Fleming and talk shop about the The Grand Tour.
The interview is pretty revealing in the sense that Clarkson, May, and Hammond discussed a wide range of topics about the show, including the question that’s on everybody’s mind: how different is it going to be from Top Gear?
To their credit, nobody ran away from the question, even though legal issues with the BBC do prevent them from talking about Top Gear too much. In a nutshell though, Clarkson said it best when he said that The Grand Tour will have similarities to Top Gear “in a broad sense.” That could mean similarities of having a studio setup, similarities in driving and reviewing cars, and of course, similarities in all of the shenanigans that these three often find themselves in.
Whatever the case may be, I’m just excited to catch the first episode of The Grand Tour and this L.A. Times interview isn’t helping in tempering that excitement.
