Skoda's segment-straddling Kodiaq seven seat SUV will roll into Australian showrooms in May, in one well-equipped model grade, from $42,990 plus on-road costs.
Sitting somewhere between the medium and large SUV segment, the Kodiaq undercuts the Mitsubishi Outlander Exceed seven seater ($44,000) in the medium category, but is pricier than the three-row equivalent Nissan X-Trail ST-L, which sells from $38,090.
Rivals in the seven seat large SUV category include the Mazda CX-9 starting from $42,490 for the front-wheel drive Sport, the Kia Sorento Si from $40,990, Toyota's Kluger GX from $43,550 and the Hyundai Santa Fe Active from $41,850.
At launch, the Kodiaq will be offered with a single powertrain variant, sporting a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol 132TSI engine under the bonnet that makes 132kW and 320Nm sending power to all four wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
The novel door edge protection feature makes its debut in the Kodiaq.
Official combined cycle fuel consumption is rated at 7.6 litres per 100km.
Later in the year, a 2.0-litre oil-burning 140TDI turbo-diesel variant will join the range, pumping out 140kW/400Nm.
It is also possible the more off-road-focused Scout and dynamically-styled Sportline from this year's Geneva show could join the line-up at a later time.
Standard equipment on the Kodiaq includes adaptive cruise control, keyless entry, adaptive LED headlights, dual-zone climate control, electric parking brake with auto hold, automatic tailgate with height adjustable electric opening, adjustable second row seating, mechanical sun blinds for second row seats and luggage compartment net.
The Kodiaq's list of standard safety features include nine airbags, 'Passenger Protect Assist', 'Front Assist with City Emergency Brake', fatigue detection, tyre pressure monitoring system, cornering fog lights, rear-seat child safety lock and 'Multi-Collision Brake.'
The novel door edge protection feature makes its debut in the Kodiaq, which involves a mechanical extending protective bumper that prevents door damage in tight spaces.
Interior features include an 8.0-inch touchscreen, 'Columbus' sat-nav, an eight-speaker sound system, Bluetooth, USB, auxiliary, DVD, CD and SD card compatibility, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality, Alcantara-appointed upholstery, LED ambient lighting and a flat-bottomed leather steering wheel.
Those looking for extra features have the option of adding a 'Tech Pack' for $2500 or a 'Luxury Pack' from $4900, while for a limited time a 'Launch Pack' is available for the first Kodiaq buyers for $5900.
The Tech Pack includes adaptive chassis control with driving mode selection, hands-free tailgate opening and closing, 10-speaker 'Canton' sound system, 'Automatic Park Assist', 'Manoeuvre Braking Assist', and off-road mode.
Opting for the Luxury Pack adds electrically adjustable front seats with memory function, 'Lane Assist', blind spot monitoring, perforated leather seat upholstery with ventilated front seats, surround area view, front and rear heated seats, three-zone air conditioning, traffic jam assist, emergency assist, rear traffic alert and auto-dimming side mirrors.
The Launch Pack includes all the features from the Tech Pack, and adds 19-inch wheels and a number of autonomous safety features from the Luxury Pack.
